Caring for Each Other |
“And as ridiculous as it may sound, sometimes all any
of us needs in life is for someone to hold our hand and walk next to us.”
James Frey |
Pastoral Care
A team of dedicated volunteers make regular visits to the local Hospital and many of the Nursing Homes and Aged Care Facilities in and around Buderim. Some members of the team will lead short services or bring Holy Communion to those unable to get to church, others simply visit as the friendly and caring face of St Mark’s church.
We are always looking for more team members so if you feel able to help out please get in touch. |
Food DonationsSt Mark's Buderim help stock a couple of emergency food pantries: one for the university's student guild welfare program and one for local refugees. Two big baskets are always at the entry of the church waiting for donations of canned, packaged and dried food as well as basic toiletry products.

SAILS is a program of the wider Anglican Southern Queensland Diocesan that attempt to find Christian responses to the difficulties of people in disadvantaged and marginalised groups. The Buderim group are based at the Green House (168 Lindsay Rd Buderim). They meet regularly Tuesdays at 10am and everyone is welcome.
Particular ministries of the Buderim SAILS include the following:
Indigenous Reconciliation The Green House is a welcoming place for Australia's first people. SAILS has partnerships with some local Indigenous groups and a wilderness memorial garden where native plants are grown for people of these groups who have died recently. They have also been researching and gathering local Indigenous and Kanaka history as a resource for the wider Buderim Community. Intellectually Disabled Adults Weekly the men from the Teralba care hostel come to The Greenhouse for a day of activities and contact with the wider community. Refugees This group is able to help house and provide a strong community contact for a small group of Tamil refugees. Environmental Conservation The Green House borders part of Buderim Forest Nature Refuge which they maintain. They are involved in local land care projects in council parks and other public land in the centre of Buderim and manage the rainforest regeneration project known as Wunya Park adjacent to St.Mark's church. |

Chappy DaveAlong with other local churches we support David Larkin and the chaplaincy program at Buderim Mountain State School. Chappy Dave runs lunchtime kids activities, gives a listening ear and is a friend to all at the school. He also offers pastoral care to students and families doing it tough.

Wunya Park
Part
of our church grounds, is an iconic rocky
escarpment with a small remanent of Buderim’s pre-colonial rainforest. Along with SAILS we have been revegetating the area with indigenous species.
We have set aside this land as a area of wilderness conservation and retreat on the main street of Buderim. This area has been named WUNYA PARK.
Not only is it a smidgen of God creation but it is also of local historic significance as it borders on what used to be known as ‘Blacks Camp’ where some of Buderim’s Indigenous and Kanaka community were allowed to live in pioneering days. “Wunya” is an informal greeting such as “how are you?” or “G’day” in the language of the Kabi Kabi people who were original custodians of this land. It is hoped that by naming the park with a name from the indigenous language and explaining its significance we will promote our desire for reconciliation. If you'd like to help out there is a regular working bee Thursday mornings. |
